THE WIZARD HAS SPOKEN — BACKER STRETCH GOAL! PLUS INSTAGRAM LIVESTREAM!
over 3 years ago – Thu, Sep 03, 2020 at 06:08:20 PM

Good morning, Yellow Brick Road Warriors, and thank you to everyone who's built our Emerald Army strong!

Because of the incredible support we've gotten so far, we're officially throwing down the gauntlet for our first Backer Stretch Goal! If we hit 1,000 readers, I will record an exclusive behind-the-scenes commentary track for our ENTIRE 44-page first issue, which we will offer to ALL BACKERS! So spread the word, and tell all your friends to join us in the trenches of The O.Z.!

Meanwhile, for those who weren't able to catch me on Instagram Live yesterday, we've got a link up — I spent an hour chatting with our readers about The O.Z., where we're at in the production process (we're coloring one last pinup!), and other projects in the works.

Lastly, I wanted to shoutout two other Kickstarter campaigns that look really awesome! My pal Greg Anderson-Elysee has the latest installment of Is'nana the Were-Spider currently live, and if you like fantasy-horror with a New York twist, you're gonna love this book. Beautifully drawn and impeccably written, this is an awesome opportunity to catch up on this Glyph Award-winning series.

Meanwhile, if you're a fan of The O.Z., you'll love BRZRKR, headlined by a small independent filmmaker named KEANU FREAKING REEVES! If you like stuff like John Wick, The Old Guard, or Highlander, you're gonna get a kick out of this, plus it's got writer Matt Kindt and artist Ron Garney on board, so it's going to be some top-tier storytelling. So back BRZRKR, and tell 'em the Tin Soldier sent you!

900 BACKERS, INSTAGRAM LIVE Q&A, AND A NEW PINUP!
over 3 years ago – Wed, Sep 02, 2020 at 12:41:42 PM

Good morning, Yellow Brick Road Warriors! Thank you to everyone for continuing to spread the word about The O.Z. — as of this morning, our Emerald Army is officially 900 strong, as we march towards 1,000 backers!

And as a special token of our appreciation, we wanted to unveil artist Alex Cipriano's awesome Tin Soldier pinup, which will be included in the book!

Super-cool, yeah? I love how much detail Alex was able to give our boy.

Because our readers have been so passionate and excited about The O.Z., I wanted to make sure we offered our backers some face-to-face time — so TOMORROW, September 2nd at Noon Pacific/2pm Central/3pm Eastern, I'll be doing an Instagram Live Q&A on my account @peposed. Can't wait to see you there!

Lastly, we wanted to give a shoutout to two awesome Kickstarters! If you like mash-ups like The O.Z., you'll dig Reckless Hero's Knights vs. Pirates, which pits Blackbeard and his band of cutthroats against King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table! This is the last week to order, so get it today!

And if you like your heroes with a dark side, you'll love Ichabod Jones, which my pal Russell Nohelty just launched this morning! Russell's weaving together dark comedy with horrifying Cthulhu mythos, and the results are just out of this world. (And if you want to get to know Russell better, he and I chatted about The O.Z. on his podcast The Complete Creative just as the campaign was rolling out!)

And with that, thank you again to all our Yellow Brick Road Warriors for your incredible support — hope to see you on the Instagram Livestream tomorrow, September 2nd at Noon Pacific/3pm Eastern!

STRETCH GOAL UNLOCKED! AND A COMICS LEGEND JOINS THE FRAY...
over 3 years ago – Mon, Aug 31, 2020 at 06:34:21 AM

You did it, Yellow Brick Road Warriors! Thanks to your relentless support for The O.Z., we have officially cracked the $25,000 mark — which means we've unlocked our first stretch goal, the DIGITAL COMICS EXTRAVAGANZA!

When I was growing up in the '90s, one of my favorite comic book series was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. As a kid, the Ninja Turtles was were the height of action and style — and as an adult, the Turtles became a part of my creative DNA, a bold, genre-mashing indie remix that showed me how many angles we can take on familiar stories to make them brand-new.

Which is why I am over the moon that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman has agreed to join The O.Z. for our Digital Comics Extravaganza!

All backers of The O.Z.'s campaign will receive the digital first issue of DRAWING BLOOD, Kevin's dark, semi-autobiographical meta-dramedy co-created by my pal David Avallone and illustrated by artists Ben Bishop, Troy Little and Kevin himself! Looking inside the twisted life of a professional cartoonist, Drawing Blood is the story of one man's odyssey to get back on his feet after an encounter with the hit-and-run driver known as early success.

But wait! There's more — now we've unlocked our next Stretch Goal at $30,000! If we break this mark, all physical backers will receive our incredible print of The O.Z. from Kira Okamoto!

And that's not all — starting on Monday, we'll have an all-new, all-different twist on another Stretch Goal that will get you all excited. Thank you all again for being the best readership on Kickstarter — and stay tuned for more dispatches from The O.Z.!

NEW STRETCH GOAL — JOIN THE WINGED MONKEY SQUADRON!
over 3 years ago – Sun, Aug 30, 2020 at 11:58:06 AM

Happy Friday, Yellow Brick Road Warriors! Thank you all again for being such incredible advocates for The O.Z. — and as such, we wanted to reveal our next stretch goal! If we cross our third stretch goal at $35,000, ALL PHYSICAL BACKERS will get this awesome Winged Monkey Squadron sticker!

With things running on schedule with The O.Z. — Ruben just sent me some character designs for our next issue that will blow you away, while artist Joe Mulvey just sent me pencils for his spectacular Scarecrow print — I wanted to take a moment to spotlight two other Kickstarters as well:

Have you heard of a small independent comic called Batman? If so, you might be familiar with my pal Scott Snyder, who teams up with Bat-artist Tony Daniel on NOCTERRA, a dark thriller about the world being plunged into everlasting night, and a young woman who's tasked with driving her illuminated eighteen-wheeler across the unlit wastelands. If you're looking to learn about the process of creating comics, this is a must-buy, since you'll be getting Scott's scripts and Tony's raw inks.

Another campaign I wanted to shed some light on is NEXT DOOR by my pal Zack Quaintance, who has been dropping all sorts of knowledge on Twitter and his site Comics Bookcase over the course of his campaign. (In case you missed it, we actually interviewed each other over our Kickstarters this week!) If you thought The O.Z. was dangerous, wait till you read this noir-infused take on paranoia in the suburbs. This is fun stuff that evokes work like The Dregs, BTTM FDRS, and Stray Bullets.

Let's keep spreading the word, and building our Emerald Army strong — stay tuned, because there are more awesome updates for The O.Z. to come!

800 BACKERS! 500% FUNDED! KIRA OKAMOTO STRETCH GOAL UNLOCKED!
over 3 years ago – Fri, Aug 28, 2020 at 02:34:52 AM

Hello, Yellow Brick Road Warriors! It's been a wild day over here, but we wanted to thank you for knocking out our SECOND Stretch Goal, bringing The O.Z. to a mind-blowing 800 backers and 500% funded!

And as promised, that means that all physical backers will get a book-sized copy of artist Kira Okamoto's INCREDIBLE Yellow Brick Road Warrior print!

We'll have an all-new third stretch goal up on our Kickstarter page very soon, so stay tuned — but in the meantime, anyone buying Spencer & Locke 2 and Going to the Chapel will be getting just a tiny bit more bang for their buck...

Because both series were nominated for the 2020 Ringo Awards this morning

Like I said, wild day — and we couldn't have done it with our incredible readers. So keep telling your friends and family about The O.Z., and let's keep building our Emerald Army!
